November 2017 Principal’s Letter

November 13, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The first marking period closed on Thursday November 9th. Report cards will be mailed to parents at the end of the month. Should you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s guidance counselor or teacher. Due to the fact that we had a Back-to-School Night in September we will not have Parent-Teacher conferences in the fall.  These conferences are scheduled for February.

Thank you to Olmsted staff and parents who organized and worked for the success of the Middle School Dance, the Olmsted Booster Club event at the Essex Street Pub and the Homecoming Dance. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to our assistant principal Catherine Krautsack and her new husband Tom who were married on October 20th.  She was Miss K. She is now Mrs. Dulak. Congratulations to 5th grade teacher Stacey Doldan and her husband on the birth of their son Joseph James born on October 28th. We welcome Julie Hollis to Olmsted. Julie will be filling in for Mrs. Doldan during her maternity leave.

Representatives from the University at Buffalo will be at Olmsted on Friday November 17th to do on site admissions for those students who qualify. All seniors were notified of this opportunity. However, they need to sign up in the Guidance Office and have their Common Application completed

Sophomore Jazmin Martin was one of the top finishers in the “Youth Community Builder” Contest sponsored by Open Buffalo.  As noted in the program Jazmin intends to create a youth-to-youth mentoring program for younger city residents offering stipends to mentors. This program hopes to provide vital peer support, character building and an introduction to the world of work to youth within the city.

The National Honor Society is sponsoring a canned goods drive through November 20th. Food items can be dropped off in the containers outside the main office. The drive runs until November 20th. The NHS is asking that each student and staff member donate at least one canned item.

OPTO is selling Olmsted Gear on-line. Please refer to the e-mail sent to all parents last week.

From last month’s principal’s letter:  Students in grades 5-8, with the exception of walkers, ride the yellow bus each day. Unless we have a note from a parent the student will be put on the bus. In addition, we cannot honor requests for bus changes for students to go to a friend’s house.
